Queer Ruralities: International workshop series in Dortmund and Sydney - apply now

The international workshop series "Queer Ruralities" invites you to take a look at the material, political and cultural realities of the lives of queer people in rural, regional and coastal areas. The focus is on the experiences of people who work in paid or unpaid agriculture, fishing or other agricultural work and/or who live and work in these regions. At the same time, the workshops will ask how queer perspectives and methods can be applied to rural ways of living and working.
The events will take place at two locations: TU Dortmund University in Germany and the Parramatta Campus of the University of New England (UNE) in Sydney, Australia. Participation is possible both in person and online.
The workshops are particularly aimed at academics, development cooperation professionals and people working in NGOs or community-based organizations with experience in working with queer rural communities.
Participation in the workshops is free of charge. For a limited number of participants - depending on their personal situation - funding is also available for travel and accommodation costs.
The application deadline is Friday, May 22, 2026.
