As part of the European campaign#EuropeGoesPurplecampaign, Dr. Anike Krämer discussed the implementation of the new Council of Europe recommendation on equality for intersex people at the Ministry of Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth yesterday. After Wolfram Bechtel (Secretary of the Council of Europe's Steering Committee on Anti-Discrimination, Diversity and Inclusion) presented the recommendations and Dr. Dan Christan Ghattas (Executive Director, Organization Intersex International Europe (OII Europe)) reviewed the political developments, Dr. Anike Krämer discussed the implementation of the recommendations for Germany with Nick Markwald, Prof. Dr. Andrea Nachtigall, Lisa Oude Lansink and Dr. Ulla Döhnert.

The recommendation, which was adopted in October 2025, is the first international legal instrument to explicitly address the human rights of intersex people. You can find out more on the Council of Europe website https://www.coe.int/en/web/sogi/europegoespurple
